Project summary  

 

The Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) under the controlling HIV epidemic program (CHEP) project will be implementing the HIV program to reach sustainable control of the HIV epidemic through the lens of the Zambia national HIV targets and the America first vision.

The program goal is to support the ministry of health to reach sustainable control of the HIV epidemic, MNCH services and GHS activities across three provinces namely, Copperbelt, central and Northwestern by implementing a person-centered HIV prevention, care and treatment program aligned with the ministry of health Vision.

The CHEP project will work in collaboration with ministry of health teams at provincial, district and facility level and other stakeholders to:

  • Increasing coverage of comprehensive and client-centered HIV testing, prevention, diagnosis, care, and treatment services in communities and health facilities to reach and maintain 95-95-95.
  • Increasing utilization of community and facility-based quality, person-centered, integrated vertical transmission prevention (VTP), and other MNCH HIV services.
  • Increasing capacities of ministry of health to gradually transition Direct Service Delivery (DSD) of quality integrated health services and sustain services beyond project activity implementation.

Job summary

 

Reports to District Clinical Lead (Administratively) and technically to the  Paediatric and Adolescent HIV Provincial Clinical Mentor. Work alongside the DHO counterpart to provide high-quality, client-centered HIV/TB, Pediatrics and adolescent’s health services in supported district and facilities. This includes but not limited to providing direct clinical services to children and adolescents, support screening for AHDs, support continuum in care, viral load coverage and suppression through quality routine service delivery. Identify persistent program gaps and initiate QI project to address gaps affecting HIV prevention, care and treatment for children and adolescents.

Main duties

  • Lead health systems strengthening activities across supported district facilities to ensure delivery of high quality, equitable paediatric and adolescent HIV care.
  • Support the District Health Office (DHO) in the development, review, and implementation of HIV/AIDS care, treatment, and support policies, guidelines, and SOPs, ensuring they are responsive to quality and equity considerations for paeds and adolescent activities
  • Conduct joint clinical mentorship and direct service delivery with DHO teams, focusing on paediatric and adolescent HIV care, including Advanced HIV Disease (AHD) services in both facilities and community settings.
  • Organize and facilitate capacity-building initiatives and standardized trainings for Ministry of Health staff on paediatric and adolescent HIV care and treatment.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and technical support to healthcare workers to strengthen delivery of comprehensive HIV services, including ART initiation and management, adherence support, and differentiated service delivery models for children and adolescents.
  • Support the implementation of quality assurance (QA) and quality improvement (QI) initiatives at facility level to improve outcomes for paediatric and adolescent clients.
  • Collaborate closely with facility staff and key stakeholders to prioritize high-impact interventions, scale up paediatric and adolescent HIV services, and achieve district targets.
  • Conduct routine analysis of site-level performance data across supported facilities, with a focus on high-volume and low-performing sites, and guide targeted interventions in collaboration with the M&E team to address gaps in Paed and adolescents
  • Identify, document, and disseminate best practices, innovations, and new knowledge to improve paediatric and adolescent HIV service delivery across the district.

Qualifications

  • HIV Clinician or nurse prescriber with experience in clinical services delivery. (masters is an added advantage)
  • Trained in Quality improvement/ quality assessment
  • Additional training in HIV/TB and paediatric ART
  • Knowledge in HIV/AIDS clinical management, including the current national guidelines for HIV prevention, care and treatment.
  • Experience with MoH led programming.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in managing Paed and Adolescent HIV/AIDS services in clinical settings.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in project implementation, excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Good computer skills, including competence in MS Office and internet/e-mail.
  • Willingness to work in rural settings.
