Project Summary:

The TB REACH Wave 11 study aims to enhance tuberculosis (TB) screening through innovative AI technology that utilizes cough sound analysis.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Study Coordinator. The incumbent will focus on evaluating patients with post-TB lung disease (PTLD) and supporting the piloting of Sound AI technology for TB screening. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts assigned study procedures in compliance with international research guidelines and study protocols.
  • Supports community engagement, including sensitization and education activities to ensure informed participation.
  • Facilitates participant recruitment and retention, ensuring adherence to study inclusion criteria.
  • Obtains and maintains accurate participant locator information for effective follow-up.
  • Conducts timely self-quality checks (QC) to uphold data integrity and procedural accuracy.
  • Ensures strict participant confidentiality and privacy in all interactions and record-keeping practices.
  • Maintains accountability for study resources, including supplies, participant forms, and study documentation.
  • Operates sound recording software (e.g., Audacity) to monitor and ensure high-quality recordings.
  • Facilitates the collection of cough sound recordings from patients presenting respiratory symptoms.
  • Ensures optimal audio signal levels (-1 to +1 dB) to prevent clipping and maintain data integrity.
  • Stores and organizes Sound AI data in designated secure folders within the Linux operating system, following study protocols.
  • Fosters open and transparent communication with study team members regarding progress, challenges, and operational updates.
  • Actively participates in problem-solving sessions to address emerging research obstacles.
  • Works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary study team, supporting integration with clinic and community stakeholders.
  • Identifies and reports community misconceptions about research and assist in addressing concerns in coordination with the Study Coordinator.
  • Ensures high-quality participant engagement, maintaining a respectful and professional demeanor at all times.
  • Responds promptly to participant and family inquiries, providing necessary clarification while respecting ethical boundaries.

Requirements:

  • Full Grade 12 certificate.
  • Diploma in Public Health, Social Sciences, Nursing, or any relevant field. Degree will be an added advantage.
  • At least one year of experience in research, clinical work, or community education.
  • Prior exposure to research settings, data collection, and ethical research practices.
  • Fluency in at least one local language (Nyanja or Bemba) for effective community engagement.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to schedule and manage multiple research tasks efficiently.
  • Experience using Linux-based systems and proficiency in audio recording tools (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, reliability, and ability to work in a fast-paced research environment.
