Job summary
Reports to Research Fellow. The incumbent will manage key lab processes to ensure smooth and accurate study execution. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and effective communication skills to work collaboratively with the research team.
Main duties
Collects, processes, and stores biological and chemical samples according to established protocols.
Ensures that all samples are handled in compliance with safety and quality standards.
Maintains accurate and detailed records for all sample collection, processing, and storage activities.
Enters data into lab databases and ensures that records are kept up-to-date for audits and analysis.
Performs laboratory experiments required to meet study objectives, following standardized procedures to ensure consistency and reproducibility.
Troubleshoots and optimizes protocols as needed to support experimental goals.
Assists in maintaining lab equipment by performing routine maintenance checks and coordinating repairs as needed.
Monitors inventory and assists with ordering supplies to support ongoing research activities.
Participates in weekly group meetings with the Ndhlovu lab at AHRI
Contribute to research that advances study objectives and supports high-quality, scientifically rigorous results.
Specific deliverables are as follows
Complete the laboratory assays for the projects assigned by Research fellow,
Support the study team / Research Fellow in manuscript preparation and submission for publication
Represent the study in assigned collaborative meetings and conferences
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences, Immunology, Molecular and Cell Biology, or a related field.
Minimum of two years of post-graduation experience in laboratory bench work.
Valid practicing license
Experience with the following techniques:
ELISPOT assays
ELISA assays
Flow cytometry
Tissue culture
Molecu
lar assays, including both single-plex and multiplex qPCR.
