Project summary

Zambian Informed Motivated Aware and Responsible Adolescents and Adults  (ZAIMARA) is a five (5) year project where CIDRZ will work towards meeting the 95-95-95 targets for adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in 5 distinct communities in Lusaka Province. CIDRZ will collaborate with the University of Alabama (UAB) and the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) to conduct a hybrid trial that will evaluate the effectiveness and implementation of IMARA a CDC “best-evidence” mother and daughter model that directly addresses HIV Testing and Counselling (HTC), PrEP uptake and sexual behavior among AGYW.

Job summary 

Reports to Research Nurse. The Research Assistant will support various aspects of a research study, including training, recruitment, enrollment, follow-up, and maintaining professional standards. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to ethical guidelines, and effective communication skills.

Key responsibilities 
  • Attends study protocol training sessions.
  • Completes and maintains research ethics certification.
  • Regularly attends in-person and virtual meetings, including those organized by Ministry of Health staff at the project site.
  • Discuss the study with potential participants and conduct informed consent procedures according to CIDRZ best practices.
  • Keeps detailed records on recruitment and enrollment; present data at meetings.
  • Performs randomization procedures as required by the study protocol.
  • Administers enrollment and follow-up assessments using both paper and electronic methods.
  • Develops and implements strategies to maintain participant retention in the program.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Establishes and maintains good communication with participants, research team members, community members, and Ministry of Health staff at the site.
  • Stays organized with work and tracks targets through effective systems.
  • Collects data meticulously and performs self-quality control (QC) to ensure high data quality.
Qualifications
  • At least 1 year experience attached to a longitudinal research project to ZAIMARA (one where participants have multiple visits over a period of time). 
  • Expereince working with adolescents. 
  • Strong knowledge of HIV and STIs.
  • Ability to read and understand English, Bemba, and Nyanja.
  • Ability to speak English and at least one Zambian language.
  • Grade 12 certificate.
  • Previous experience as research assistant that involved obtained informed consent.
  • Experience working on an adolescent project.
  • Familiarity with the local community context where the study will occur.
