Job summary

Recruits and retains participants living with hepatitis B, provides hepatitis B counseling and health education, trains community health workers in hepatitis, and adheres to procedural and international guidelines for research conduct. 
 
Main duties
  • Trains and supervises a network of community health workers who provide hepatitis B testing, counseling, and referrals.
  • Performs hepatitis counseling and testing in hospital and community venues.
  • Welcomes potential participants and/or enrolled participants to the clinic 
  • Obtains participant informed consent and locator information
  • Collects relevant participant data
  • Navigates study participants with hepatitis B to have specific laboratory and radiology tests as required by the study and national guidelines.
  • Provides back up for CRF/data entry
  • Ensures specimens transport and retrieval
  • Follows up on participants who require interim visits of who have missed appointments
  • Performs self quality checks (QC) in a timely manner
  • Maintains strict participant confidentiality and privacy at all times.
  • Accountable and responsible for study resources and supplies, such as data collection forms, participant files, study equipment, and facilities.
  • Communicates with fellow staff members openly and honestly about study progress, issues, and/or problems that may arise. 
  • Actively participates in problem solving and works collegially as part of the study team.  
  • Effectively collaborates with the community and district staff as necessary.
  • Reports all community misconceptions about research and address any concerns in an expeditious manner to the study nurse or PI
  • Provides high quality service to participants by maintaining pleasant relationships at all times and attending to participants in a timely manner.
  • Acquire and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the study protocol.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 completion with at least 1 year experience in research and/or community education.
  • At least 1 year prior experience working in hepatitis B research or programs
  • Certificate in counseling or related field.
  • Fluent in at least one local language of Nyanja or Bemba, preferable both.
  • Able to organize and schedule multiple work-related tasks efficiently.
