Job summary
Recruits and retains participants living with hepatitis B, provides hepatitis B counseling and health education, trains community health workers in hepatitis, and adheres to procedural and international guidelines for research conduct.
Main duties
Trains and supervises a network of community health workers who provide hepatitis B testing, counseling, and referrals.
Performs hepatitis counseling and testing in hospital and community venues.
Welcomes potential participants and/or enrolled participants to the clinic
Obtains participant informed consent and locator information
Collects relevant participant data
Navigates study participants with hepatitis B to have specific laboratory and radiology tests as required by the study and national guidelines.
Provides back up for CRF/data entry
Ensures specimens transport and retrieval
Follows up on participants who require interim visits of who have missed appointments
Performs self quality checks (QC) in a timely manner
Maintains strict participant confidentiality and privacy at all times.
Accountable and responsible for study resources and supplies, such as data collection forms, participant files, study equipment, and facilities.
Communicates with fellow staff members openly and honestly about study progress, issues, and/or problems that may arise.
Actively participates in problem solving and works collegially as part of the study team.
Effectively collaborates with the community and district staff as necessary.
Reports all community misconceptions about research and address any concerns in an expeditious manner to the study nurse or PI
Provides high quality service to participants by maintaining pleasant relationships at all times and attending to participants in a timely manner.
Acquire and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the study protocol.
Qualifications
Grade 12 completion with at least 1 year experience in research and/or community education.
At least 1 year prior experience working in hepatitis B research or programs
Certificate in counseling or related field.
Fluent in at least one local language of Nyanja or Bemba, preferable both.
Able to organize and schedule multiple work-related tasks efficiently.
