PhD FELLOW – PEN Plus Project X1, LUSAKA- Ref No. PhD/Fel/09/03/22

BACKGROUND

CIDRZ is an independent, local, non-governmental health research organization focused on innovative and collaborative approaches to develop research, health services and training initiatives with measurable results in public health.

The PhD fellowship is a program that enrolls candidates who wish to pursue PhD academic training nested in the CIDRZ implemented projects. This fellowship Terms of Reference (TOR) describes work for the PhD Fellow who will be attached on the PEN Plus Project. The PEN Plus project is being funded by The Leona M. & Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.

PEN Plus PROJECT

PEN-Plus project is a model for integrated health service delivery for severe or advanced chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) at the first-referral hospital level. PEN-Plus builds on the World Health Organization’s Package of Essential NCD Interventions (WHO PEN). Whereas WHO PEN addresses common NCDs at the primary care level, PEN-Plus focuses on first level hospitals and care for more severe NCDs such as type 1 diabetes, sickle cell disease, and rheumatic and congenital heart disease. PEN-Plus trains integrated care teams of mid-level providers such as clinical officers and nurses to provide advanced-level care in rural district and hospitals to ensure availability and access to care for the poorest and most vulnerable populations.
