Reports to Provincial TB Mentor. The incumbent will work with the TB LON clinical mentors and the Ministry of Health (MOH) staff at points of service to optimize TB case finding and management.  

Main Duties: 

  • Coordinates TB screening at the fast-track desk and ensure individuals presenting at the facility are screened for TB. 
  • Guides community-based volunteers (CBVs) to support proper sputum collection and timely submission of samples to the laboratory 
  • Works with the laboratory to optimize timely results feedback and ensure timely communication of results to patients. 
  • Works with the CBVs, chest clinic staff and other facility staff to maintain up to date and accurate TB screening registers, presumptive TB registers, TB treatment register, TPT register and other relevant TB records. 
  • Facilitates linkage of diagnosed TB patients to treatment and support provision of TB preventive therapy for eligible individuals. 
  • Supervises and supports CBVs, in collaboration with community partners, to ensure timely baseline and repeat contact tracing. 
  • Provides support to the effective referral system of tuberculosis and HIV patients to ensure integration of TB and HIV services within facilities. 
  • Works with the chest clinic to support appointment management and ensure retention in care 
  • Participates in all TB and TB/HIV meetings and engagements at local level and provide updates as required 
  • Works closely with the district and facility TB focal point persons to organize and coordinate facility TB data review meetings. 
  • MDR TB surveillance- Track access to and results of the DST among the following high-risk groups: contacts to MDR TB cases, retreatment TB cases, patients who develop TB on or after IPT and patients who are smear positive at month 2 or above during treatment.   
  • Supports improved use of TB reporting and recording tools 
  • Compiles reports including ad-hoc reports as required 
  • Supports active drug safety monitoring and a management including submission of pharmacovigilance reports at facility level  
  • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor 

Requirements: 

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • A diploma or degree in nursing or health-related field  
  • Registration with the General Nursing and Midwifery council 
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in the field of TB. Hands on experience with TB case finding and case management will be an added advantage.   
  • Basic training in adult and pediatric TB.  Training in HIV will be an added advantage 
  • Computer literate, with high competency in using Microsoft office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 
  • Good management and co-ordination skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and good team spirit 
  • Passionate about health-service delivery, and a desire to end the suffering of those affected by TB disease. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines, and pays attention to detail 
  • Excellent communication skills in both spoken and written English
