Reports to Medical Officer. The incumbent will work with PI, and other team members in the provision of medical care to project participants. S/he will also follow through and adhere to Good Clinical Practices guidelines and other local and international clinical management regulations.

Main Duties:

  • Ensures safety of patients at all times
  • Be knowledgeable in the diagnosis and treatment of NCDs as well as general medical conditions common in Zambia
  • Has knowledge on nutrition and healthy eating habits and be able to cousnsel study participants on the same
  • Performs screening, enrolment and other physical examinations as required with skill and accuracy
  • Ensures quality care and accuracy in the collection of participant specimens, timely delivery to the lab collection /tracking of results, and timely ,confidential and sensitive notification of results to the participant.
  • Works with the Medical Officer in referrals of participants for further treatment
  • Participates in retention and community activities
  • Collects quality and accurate data as per Good documentation Practice ( GDP) guidelines
  • Conducts quality control and quality Assurance as per Clinical Quality Management Plan (CQMP)
  • Attends to any other duties as required to ensure the safe and confidential management of participant medical care and study data
  • Completes all required study training including routine Human Subject Protection and Good Clinical Practices training
  • Acquires and maintains an in-depth knowledge of NCDs
  • Communicates with fellow staff members openly and honestly about study progress, issues, and/or problems that may arise.
  • Updates the study team regularly about challenges with study implementation
  • Actively participates in problem solving.
  • Provides high quality service to participants by maintaining pleasant relationships at all times and attending to participants in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine
  • Must have a Professional Practicing License
  • Must be knowledgeable in the diagnosis and treatment of NCDs as well as general medical conditions  common in Zambia.
  • Must have knowledge on nutrition and healthy eating habits and be able to counsel patients on the same.
  • Competence based training such as Human Subject Protection and Good Clinical Practices training is an added advantage
  • One (1) year experience in clinical research or other research activities will be an added advantage
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills
  • Proficiency in Nyanja and Bemba
